Solid waste placed for collection shall be separated, packaged, or bundled and shall not exceed a total
of 70 kilograms (155 lbs) in weight or over 2.0 meters (6 ½ feet) in any dimension up to a maximum of 2
cubic meters (2 ½ cubic yards) in volume.
DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNT OF WASTE TO BE COLLECTED OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME,
THE MUNICIPALITY OF YARMOUTH RESERVES THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES.
The following list of items WILL BE picked up during our Spring Clean-Up. Items must be separated into various groups for ease of pick up and disposal and smaller items placed in CLEAR BAGS, not black bags.
- tree limbs, brush (must be bundled in 3’ lengths)
- mattresses rolled and tied
- hot water heaters
- lawn mowers (drained of oil and gasoline)
- oil tanks (must be cut in half)
- rugs/carpets (cut & rolled in manageable sizes)
- household furniture
- BBQ’s
- appliances and white goods. Refrigerators and freezers must have doors removed from the appliance. Only
one major appliance per household from each group will be accepted for pick up i.e. one stove, one washer, one
dryer, one hot water heater, etc.
The following WILL NOT be accepted for disposal:
- home construction/renovation/demolition debris and waste material
- explosives or toxic materials
- lobster traps
- paints and solvents
- liquid wastes
- combustible materials
- propane tanks (Saulnier’s Home Hardware) or the Hardscratch Road Transfer Station
- car bodies and heavy car parts (contact Waste Check for derelict vehicle program)
- automotive tires (bring your old tires – (up to 4, de-rimmed) to your local tire retailer for recycling - no charge.
- car batteries (car batteries are accepted at your local Enviro-Depot). Contact Waste Check @ 742-1312
- garden and yard waste (use your backyard composter or green organics cart)
- waste oil may be dropped off at your local service station or at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) depot at the transfer station on the Hardscratch Road.
- household hazardous wastes (HHW) such as corrosive cleaners and solvents, strong acids and alkalis, house and garden pesticides can be taken to the HHW depot on the Hardscratch Road. Most household waste paint can be taken to your local Enviro-Depot or the HHW depot for proper disposal. Contact Waste Check at 742-1312.
- electronics (such as computers, TV's, monitors, printers, telephones, VCR’s, DVDS & CD players, stereos, digital cameras, etc) can be taken to the Enviro-Depot, 236-D, Water Street or call Waste Check at 742-1312.

Property owners may choose to drop off separated waste at the transfer station located on the Hardscratch Road
(no tipping fees will be applied) but must limit quantities per household, as indicated above.
Before setting an item as curbside, consider REUSE options. A local service agency, your church group, or the
second hand store, may provide a new home for an item you no longer want.
